Tom ran the ball down the side of the football pitch, highlighting his signature skill of dribbling. He was light on his feet and could quickly turn it past oncoming defence.
“Go Tom! Shoot!” Benny yelled from the sidelines.
Tom kicked the ball towards the goal, over the defence’s heads. It was leading astray and was going to miss if one of his teammates doesn’t manage to redirect it. However Tom doesn’t need teammates to redirect it.
“Maah-gann dah” He chanted under his breath whilst clicking his fingers. His eyes followed the ball, he was expecting it to move by itself and head for the goal. Benny looked on with confusion. Normally it would work and he would score.
The final whistle blew and the game was over. Tom was disappointed, that could have progressed them on to the next round.
Adam, who was one of the sixth formers, walked over to Benny. He had a denim jacket over the top of a plain white t-shirt. He asked Benny “Tom, the one on the wing, he’s your mate right?”
“Yeah” Benny smiled back.
“Give him my congrats. I was wing a few years ago. Maybe this could help him at some point in the future?” He gave him a light necklace with a charm in the form a football on. It was golden.
“Thanks, where did you get this? Its so cool!” Benny asked. He looked up and Adam was gone…
A message came up on Benny’s phone from Tom. ‘Meet me inside- Need to talk’. Benny waddled to the doors and headed for the changing rooms.
“Nice one Tom! That was a great game!” Benny cheered his friend on.
“You saw what happened, or didn’t happen. Right?” Tom said, ignoring Benny’s encouragement.
“Yeah. I, err, thought you’d used all your spells or something?” Benny asked
“No, I saved them all in case I needed them” Tom replied, annoyed with the failure.
The pair entered the changing rooms as Tom was still in his kit, covered in mud.
“Where is everyone?” Benny asked.
“They go within ten minutes, try and get out to see everyone.” Tom replied “No one will be in here until lock up in an hour” He sat down on the bench and took off his boots and socks. He then took his jersey off and used a towel to rub off the worst of the dirt. His bare feet placed on the cold tile flooring and a shiver went down his spine. This prompted him and he jolted up “We need to get back to my house” He quickly changed into his clothes- a pair of dark denim jeans, a white V-neck T-shirt and his signature red coat. He flooded the room with deodorant so they both made a run for it out the back entrance. They didn’t want to be seen by others who could slow them down.

-------------------

Tom ran to the chamber immediately to find Ursula. He knocked twice “Chamber of Crowe, open to me, reveal yourself on the know of three.” He knocked for the final time. To Benny, it was the same magical sensation as the first time. Both went straight down the candle-lit corridor before reaching the main area. Mrs. Crowe and Randal Moon were there practicing potions and reading spells.
“I’ve lost my magic!” Tom exclaimed. Mrs. Crowe put her veils down and jogged over “I have no spells!” Tom reiterated.
“But? Are you sure you haven’t just used them all up?” Ursula sat him down on a toadstool.
“No, I saved them all.” He replied, trying not to make it obvious he planned on cheating in his game.
“Oh Tom!” Ursula panicked “I don’t know what I can do”
Benny popped into their conversation “Are you sure there isn’t a spell or potion you can do? Or at least find out where Tom’s magic has gone so we can reverse it and get it back?”
Ursula grinned from cheek to cheek. “You are a genius Benjamin!” She cheered.
Benny knew how many times she’s called him a genius before and how many she really meant it; this was one of the times that she meant it. “Wh…what did I say?” He still didn’t realise what he’d said that sparked this reaction. Ursula grabbed a large book with rough brown leather cover.
“This book can locate the living place of any wizard at the holders request.” Ursula chirped.
“So like a wizards yellow pages?” Tom asked. Ursula just glared at him sarcastically before letting a smirk take over he face.
“If you will” She answered “Now, let me think” She paced up and down the lair.
“Mrs. Crowe. I think I know just the person you need” Moon said with a little excitement. “Theodora Stralva! One of the greatest alchemists of the modern day.” He exclaimed with a sense of pride.
“Do it Mrs. Crowe!” Benny supported
“Yeah, what’re you waiting for?” Tom encouraged.
Ursula planted her feet firmly in the floor. She opened the book. The tension could be cut with a knife.
“Well. You see, it doesn’t just get hold of them. You’ll both need to be sent there with the spell.” She admitted. Though they both looked at her and nodded. She took the signal and began.
“Book knowledge and wizardry,
Open up and reveal to me,
Locate the following and let it be
Theodora Stralva they want to see
Loca-tra tele-mino Gah!”
An orange and red mist emerged from the book and flew around Ursulas head. She controlled it with her magical staff and spun it several time chanting “Porta-Goh” before launching it in the direction of Tom and Benny. It shrouded them and slowly faded. They were gone. Randal Moon watched on with pleasure and Ursula squealed with joy as it had worked.

-----------------------

Woodland surrounded Tom and Benny. There was a dirt path that leads out. The sky was grey. They followed the path a reached a large empty space with just the sky and floor.
“What are we even looking for?” Benny asked, breaking the silence.
“Somewhere someone could live: A Tree house, a caved in tree, a hole leading underground or a dome of vines.”
Benny Interrupted “A stone hut?”
“Yeah, anything like that.”
“No…a stone hut” Benny repeated while pointing at a small stone hut Behind Tom.
“Ah…” Tom sighed, “Well, lets go in” He turned around and marched off. Benny tagged behind cautiously.
The wooden door creaked open. It was dark. The place was a mess. Veils lined up in no particular order and there was a half finished brew on the table.
“Theodora?” “Mrs. Stralva?” “Hello?” “We’re from the family of Crowe”
“Perhaps she went to get some leaves or something?” Benny said nervously.
“Yeah. Perhaps she did” Tom agreed, also getting apprehensive of where she was. They both walked over to the potion in the middle of the table and sniffed it. A book was left open with a page torn out of it. Benny scanned the pages quickly.
Loud footsteps entered the hut and bashed against the wooden floor. The silhouette was familiar to them both. Nekross.
“Halflings! Stand down or prepare to be disintegrated”

“This won’t hurt…much” Vaarg, the Nekross prince, warned to the pair of teenagers while giving an evil grin. He cocked his head and his finger pressed lightly on the trigger.
“What do we do?” Tom whispered in Benny’s ear. Benny gulped slowly. He quickly turned and grabbed the concoction on the table and hurtled it at Vaarg.
“Stupid Halflings, Magic doesn’t work on Nekross. Remember?” Vaarg cackled.
“Benny, What’ve you done?” Tom yelled.
“Magic doesn’t work on Nekross. But liquids work on electronics!” Benny replied cleverly. Vaarg’s suit started to spark.
“My teleporter! What have you done?” He cried.
“Grab hold of him Benny!” Tom called out. Benny clenched hold of Vaarg’s right arm while Tom grabbed his left.
A strong white light with blue bars beamed down on them and they all disappeared- to the Nekross Spaceship.

---------------------

The light materialised on the spaceship’s main control room.
Vaarg instantly commanded, “Take these two to the holding cells”. Two of the helmeted soldiers grabbed them and escorted them to the on-board prison.
“You can’t do this!” Tom shouted at them.
“I think we can” Vaarg snarled. Lexi walked over to Vaarg.
“Why do you hold them brother? If you were desperate you would feast” She questioned.
“I like to play with my food for a while” He smirked.
“Father will not be happy” She returned.

------------

Tom and Benny were thrown into one of the cells.
“Great. Why did you tell me to grab hold of him?” Benny asked, frustrated.
“I need answers Benny, I need my magic” Tom replied with a snap.
“You need magic do you? I’ve gotten by without it Tom.”
“I’ve lived my whole life like it Benny. I’m so used to it. So yes, I do need it.”
“Benny?” A voice called. A woman came from the shadows in the corner of the cell. She had faded ginger hair in a high up, loose bun with strands hanging down either side of her face.
“Yes, who’re you?” Benny asked.
“I am Madame Theodora Stralva” She said grandly.
“We’ve been looking for you!” Tom cut in. She looked slightly confused. “My magic. It’s gone…” Tom added.
“Gone, what do you mean gone?” She asked.
“I tried a spell and it didn’t work. I haven’t used them today either before you ask”
“Fear not, I can cure this, I know exactly what’s happened. But I need to be off this ship” She replied, restoring some hope for Tom and Benny.
“And how do we do that exactly?” Benny asked.
“I really don’t know…I’m sorry” She answered, doubtful.
The three sat on the cold, metal floor. Silence filled the room as the three thought of ways to escape.
“Oh, Tom. Adam from sixth form gave me this to give to you” He pulled out the gold football necklace “He said that it was his good-luck charm when he was in wing” he dangled it over his hand and went to give it to Tom. Madame Stralva’s eyes flared and focussed on the piece. She reached out and grabbed the necklace from Benny’s hand. The two boys looked at her, displeased and confused.
“This…this is out way out!” She exclaimed. Their faces turned from frowns into grins.
“How, Madame Stralva?” Tom asked “Its just a charm necklace”
“But Thomas, remember that a charm to a wizard is different to that of an unenchanted. To them, a charm is just an object. To us, a charm is pure magic.”
“Of course! But how did Adam get hold of such an item?”
“Ah yes. You see. Being the best alchemist in the wizard world I made a simple transformation potion. He just happened to be the best person to turn into. I thought you would need it one day Tom.” She explained.
“But how does it get us out of here?” Benny interrupted. Madame Stralva broke a grin before telling Benny to hold on to it.
“Benny, you hold it, Tom grab his other arm. Now Benny slowly twist it” She commanded him. They all jolted their heads at the loud sound of stomping footsteps.
“Quickly!” Tom yelled.
“No, it must be done slowly or else it won’t work!” She replied.
Benny’s hands slowly twisted half of the football shaped charm.
“What’s this coming out of it?” he asked, as a small amount of liquid was oozing out.
“It’s the potion. Ignore it!” She replied with anxiety. The footsteps were loud and just outside one of the doors. Tom was sweating with nerves. The golden football started to shine. Suddenly a Nekross warrior burst through the doors with a large helmet covering its face and a large gun, prepared to fire. The trio disappeared immediately with a rapid glow.

--------------------

The school field was deserted, until a glow appeared from nowhere. Tom, Benny and Madame Stralva all appeared out of the burst of light.
“How did we…?” Tom muttered.
“The potion transported us back to its original contact with you Benny. We’re in the exact spot Adam gave you the charm.” She answered. Benny stood staring at his hands.
“Where’d it go?” He asked. “I was holding it”
“It burned up Benny, the magic was too strong for it” Madame Stralve answered with a considering tone. “I’m sorry”
“No, its fine. Honestly.” He stared at the gold chain that the football was attached to. He turned to Tom and placed it in his palm. “Have it Tom. A Good luck charm”
Tom smiled, as did Madame Stralva.
“Madame stralva,” Tom started to speak before she interrupted him and insisted that he called her by her first name “Theodora, you said you could get me my magic back”
“Yes, well, you see. Every wizard has a day of absent magic. It forms after a large exposure to magical attributes. My presence of a transformation spell was strong enough to cause this.” She explained.
“So, I’ll have this again?” Tom asked.
“No, hopefully. You’ve managed this day without it so it shouldn’t happen again. Your powers will be with you forever now and are strong enough to never disappear.”
“Great news, right?” Benny added
“Yeah, I suppose it is” Tom smiled lightly “I guess we just have to wait until tomorrow to find out if I get them back.”
“No need. We were on that ship for long enough and I used a speed spell so that dusk fell and the next dawn has rose.”
“You mean…it’s the next day?” Tom and Benny asked synchronised.
“Yes. Is there a problem?” She asked.
“No…its fine” Tom said sheepishly.
“Well then, I’ll be off!” Madame Stralva announced “Tran-Gor Mah!”
She was shrouded in a yellow and red cloud of magic. It cleared and she was gone.
“Mum and Dad are going to kill me!” Benny exclaimed. He paced up and down the pitch.
“Gran is going to go mad!” Tom replied, feeling exactly the same as Benny.
“Can’t you use a spell to do something?”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know! You’re the wizard.”
“Actually… Mem-trah goh!” Tom clicked his fingers. This spell caused the people Tom wanted to, to have their memory replaced with another thought of his own.
“Your parents, my Dad and Gran all think that we stayed over Katie’s with some others.”
Benny smirked with a doubt, but came to terms with the idea. The pair both walked out of the pitch and headed home.
“Maah-Gann Dah!”
A lone football flew directly across the air straight into the goal net. Finally.

Well, it's a great attempt at trying to capture the character, given how little we have seen of him on-screen, and I think he's executed it very well.

It's explained in the FanFic why his gran would be mad at him. Razz

Great story, GeekChic! Smile

I thought the character of Randal Moon was quite hard to write for and didn't really want to include him, but couldn't just ignore him. And his Gran would be mad because she would assume that he's done something to get into trouble and lose his magic.
Was there anything you did like about it? Smile
