Now or Never (Prequel)

"Jade!" Nicola screeched, stomping up the steep stairs.
"What now?" Jade was tired of Nicola's voice, but she knew she couldn't ignore her now.
Nicole stood outside Jade's door, her long, bony fingers resting on her solid hips.
"Come down stairs, for heaven's sake! We've been calling you for ages!" Nicola's once pale face was getting redder by the second.
"Why?"
"There's someone in the lounge waiting for you."
Jade turned away from Nicola's technology homework at last, her expression almost haunting. She nodded, walking past Nicola and down the stairs. Her older sister followed after scanning her eyes around Jade's messy room. They both had jet black hair, but their difference was Jade always had it up.
When the sisters got to the lounge, Jade was even paler. Nicola was right; someone was waiting for her. The man was wearing a black, dull suit that fitted him comfortably. His hair was long and brown and his deep and green eyes were occupied by the floor.
"Ahem," their father, Nick, coughed.
"This is Jade." Nicola smiled faintly. Her hand pushed Jade forward slightly. Neither of the girls knew who the man was, but Jade had a good idea.
"Good afternoon, sir." Jade also smiled faintly as she tried to forget the comfort of her family.
"Good afternoon. My name is Edward, and I'm here to talk to you about Jade leaving in order to take part an extremely important project for Her Majesty's Scientific Research Center." Edward's eyes soften slightly, and Jade sat down in front of the arm chair he was sitting in.
"Now, you do understand there is a one in seven chance that she may want to carry on at the Center and that she thought this out care fully. Yes?" Edward looked towards Nick and his new wife, Casandra. Nick nodded.
"Great. Right then, Jade. What I need you to do is before we go, just sign here." He pointed at a empty line on a neat and carefully written contract. Jade read the small print, which she already read a number of times, to check they wasn't going to kill her for some Government scheme. When she signed, Edward took the paper back and smiled at her signature.
"Lovely. Shall we get going, then?" He put the paper in his brief case and stood up. Jade went to collect her suitcase from the kitchen and said goodbye to her family for the final time. Nicola cried in Jade's arms, but her sister no longer had any sympathy.
Her suitcase was thrown into the coach and she took a seat by a quirky looking boy, obviously shy and nerdy, and ignored all the way to the Research Center.
